The nominees for the 2009 Samsung Mobile AFI Awards were announced on the 28th October 2009 at the Chauvel Cinema in Paddington. Participate students were lucky enough to attend as contenders in this years awards along with 350 guests. Hosted by Peter O’Brien (Underbelly), nominations were announced by Jessica Marais (Packed to the Rafters), Saskia Burmeister (Sea Patrol) and Roger Corser (Rush).
Producers Sarah Foster-Hogg, Andrew Kelly, along with directors Eva Acharya and Martin Alverez attended the nominations announcements. Lead actors Paul Winchester attended also, and made us all aware of their nervousness leading up to the announcements. ‘It’s finally here’ said Shant. Applications for the awards were submitted in June this year.
Sweet Marshall was one of twenty-five contenders in this year’s awards. Despite best efforts to have the film quaility as a contenter, Sweet Marshall did not warrent a nomination this time round, however, our students just felt privileged to be part of the festivities.
‘Being part of the AFI Awards has been so nerve racking and fun. It certainly keeps you on your toes’ says student producer Sarah Foster-Hogg.
The AFI Awards ceremony will be help in Melbourne in December this year. Students are hoping to attend.
