DAY 7: Belgium beer café
Early morning sleep is interrupted by the high pitched wailing of my Alarm to prevent me from picking it up and throwing it at the wall like so many clocks in the past I have placed it out of reach of a half asleep and grumpy morning Tom.
Slowly I gain consciousness my eyes adjust to the red digital reading 6am and before I even have a chance to ask why so early my ride pulls up out side.
Today we are filming at the Belgium beer café in the rocks. Possibly the best looking location yet. The scene we were covering is of a nice family dinner in a busy restaurant. Luckily both Cat and Vince stayed up last night cooking food to use as set decorations. It didn’t look half bad. “But what ever you do don’t eat it it’s a prop and not designed for human consumption” Vince barked at me as I tried to scoff down a mouth full of cold burger and fries.
The feeling of sickness from trying to eat food that isn’t really food passes just as we pull up out the front. As we get out of the car I look over to the steps of a building next door to see some one lying there. At first I thought Art decided to camp out and stay the night. I walked over to greet him but on closer inspection realised “hey that’s not Art it’s just some homeless guy catching some z’s on the steps, hmm could have fooled me.”
It hits 7:30am and most of the crew have arrived. We begin by running in all the equipment. As we do the usual debate rages between both of the directors and the DOP about where exactly the filming is going to take place and what shots they are to use. Thankfully it doesn’t last to long and they all seem to be in agreement for the day.
After the set up extras start to poor in, they get their names marked of by our Creative producer Magali and then are instructed on where they will be sitting for the morning. Amongst them are a few familiar faces from previous days work. They all seem really happy to help out as they know who we are and what were trying to do. Were else in the world do you see students making and marketing a feature film, a lot of them seem to say.
The last touches on the lighting are done and now all we have to do is mice up the actors. One small problem was “where the hell is Alex, our sound guy?”
Apparently he’s slept in. Now this wouldn’t be a major problem except for one thing – HE HAS THE EQUIPMENT IN HIS CAR! All we have is two radio mics, so while we wait we decide that we should just mic two people record there lines and then do a quick swap. This problem goes on for about an hour before Alex finally arrives.
Thankfully this is the only major hick up for this mornings shoot and every thing else seems to go off without a hitch. We get some pretty good shots of the family and the out side actors playing the mother and father do a good job on delivering there rolls.
The extras seemed to enjoy it and the staff at the café had a bit of fun to. All in all it was pretty good day.
